Edgar Allan Poe

We also visited the Edgar Allan Poe museum on our travels through Richmond. Over Thanksgiving break, I watched the movie, The Raven, starring John Cusack. While this was a murder mystery, I also learned a lot about Edgar Allan Poe and his wife. The movie had a lot of history and gave an intricate twist to Poe's stories. In class, we read The Bells, The Raven, and a few others. At the museum, we learned a little about how Poe lived while he was writing these classic tales. The homes that Poe lived in have since been demolished, but the museum was able to keep a few artifacts to bring some realness to the displays. They show his childhood bed, his sister's piano, some of his clothes, and even a locke of his hair. Not to mention the numerous paintings and literature. They have four small building dedicated to the life of Poe and his family all surrounding the Enchanted Garden. Unfortunately, no photography was allowed within the exhibits but we did take a picture with a bust of Poe.
