Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe

 After visiting the museum, we ventured a few blocks down to St. John's Episcopal Church. This is the location of Poe's mother and former boss. Eliza Poe was an English born actress and died at age 24 after her husband, David Poe, had left her and the children. Eliza often performed in the Richmond Theatre which was destroyed in the fire in 1811.

While here, we also learned that Poe's childhood sweetheart, Sarah Elmira Royster, lived in a house across from the church and that Poe spent his last days before dying in Baltimore with her in this house. It is also rumored that she could be the infamous Lenore, but critics also say it could be his wife or his mother.
